Around 6th grade the fear of getting cut gets real. We build the things every coach looks for: footwork, ball-handling, shooting and dribble moves.
Passive, afraid to make a mistake? Every session includes about 10 minutes of live play, so new skills get used under pressure, not just in drills.
This is a structured, demanding hour, not babysitting. Athletes learn how to push through something difficult. That is a life skill, not just a basketball skill.
You can't control the coach or the depth chart. Skill is the one thing your athlete does control, and it is the thing we train.
Not a pep talk. The kind that comes from knowing you put in the work and can do it at game speed.
How to show up, focus for an hour and push through something hard. It carries into school and everything after.
Training next to athletes working at the same intensity. Your athlete finds a crowd that makes them better.
Making the team. Earning the minutes. A season worth posting about.

In Topeka we train five days a week, Sunday through Thursday, so there is room to move when life gets busy. Every 9-week semester also has a 10th make-up week built in, so a missed session is not a lost session.
Sessions are capped at 16 athletes with 2 trainers, an 8 to 1 ratio. And training beside athletes who work at the same intensity is worth more than training alone: your athlete can measure their effort against their peers, and about 10 minutes of every session is live play so the skills carry into real games.
No. Footwork, ball-handling, shooting and dribble moves translate to every position on the floor. Guards, wings and bigs all need them, and they are what we teach.
The academy is built for focused athletes from 3rd to 12th grade who have played some basketball and want to get better. Most of our members are in middle school and high school. It is demanding on purpose. If you are not sure, tell us about your athlete and we will be honest about the best place to start. Shooting Labs are open to every skill level.
Kansas high school rules do not allow 7th to 12th graders to take part in outside group training during their school season. So the academy runs as two 9-week semesters, and Shooting Labs and private workouts fill the gaps in between.
The 18-week membership is $595. Pay once, or pay a $55 join fee and 6 monthly payments of $90. It is the same total either way. Shooting Labs and private workouts are pay per session, with a lower rate for members. Registration and payment happen on Upper Hand.
Kerry runs the flagship in Topeka. The same footwork system runs in Manhattan, Emporia, Salina and Netawaka / Sabetha. Pick a dart to see yours.
Grade, location and what you are hoping for. We will reply with the program that fits and what the next step looks like.
Tell us a little about your athlete. No basketball knowledge needed, that part is our job.
The lessons learned on the court translate into skills for real life. The DBA Youth Foundation helps introduce a new generation to the game by providing scholarships for athletes to attend Darting Basketball Academy.
