Application
Who can be nominated
Students must be nominated by a teacher, administrator, counselor or community leader and must meet the following criteria:
- Must reside in the Topeka, Kansas area
- Must attend an elementary, middle or high school in Shawnee County, enrolled in 3rd-12th grade for the school year they are applying
- Must submit a letter explaining why they want to be part of the Scholar Program and what they hope to gain from it
- Must provide a Free and Reduced Lunch certificate to demonstrate financial need
- Must have an interest in and play basketball
- Must be available on Sunday nights to participate in the Scholar Program
Applications are vetted and approved by the DBA Youth Foundation Board of Directors in June of each year.

Exact dates for the next application window will be posted here. Late applications are not accepted. Memberships are for one year only; students must reapply each year to continue.

Who can apply?
All Scholar Program nominations must be submitted by a teacher, administrator, counselor or community leader for students in grades 3-12 (as of August of the upcoming school year) and 18 years of age or younger. The DBA Youth Foundation will not consider nominations submitted by parents or guardians.
What is the announcement process?
Selection announcements are sent approximately 8 weeks after the application deadline and 4-5 weeks before the start of DBA and the school year. Every nomination is notified whether it was awarded a scholarship or not. Results are sent to the nominator and to the student and parents.
Can I nominate more than one student?
Yes! As long as each nomination is submitted separately.
How will I know if my nominee is selected?
Results are sent to the nominator and the student/parents. Please include your correct, up-to-date email address as well as parent/student contact information (phone and email) so everyone can be reached with results.
How will the nominee receive the Scholar Program benefits?
Once selections are made and families are notified, the DBA Youth Foundation sends all necessary materials to the students and parents, including DBA timelines, a parental approval form, a contact information sheet and requests for other pertinent information.
Important tips
Nominations are disqualified if they do not meet the requirements, so please review them carefully. Darting Basketball Academy Youth Foundation reserves the right to terminate Scholar Program membership at any time.
